Dr. Carl Hurley
Success is a Process
Real success goes far beyond monetary and material gain. Success means following your passion to find your purpose and position in this miracle we call life. Some say, real success is finding your voice, your mission in life and some say it is answering your ultimate calling. Real success means that we are able to look back and say, “I am well pleased with whom I am and the contribution I have made to the betterment of others.” This process of “life success” presents itself as an inner peace and a satisfaction. Satisfaction comes when we realize that we have found our talents and we are pleased in the manner we have achieved that success. You see real success comes from within.
In this program, it would be great to allow ourselves the opportunity to laugh a lot. Humor can have a deep message about this journey we call LIFE. Humor can have the ability to be the best carrier of the momentous messages we all need to hear. Please join Dr. Carl in the exploration of Success is a Process.

Beyond Success — The Keys of Vision
The most dynamic people-oriented and high performance organizations in the world recognize the immense importance of consistent and impactful team development. Information, opportunity and challenge are accelerating at dizzy speeds.
For your dental practice to move forward and stay ahead of the game, leadership is crucial. The building of an outstanding team requires flexible, ethical, highly skilled and deeply principled leaders. Truly successful organizations recognize that every employee and teammate is a self-leader. The self-leader is given countless opportunities to embrace personal responsibilities and to make decisions that support excellence, service and possibility. Leaders that clearly communicate the vision they have for others can actually create a “magnetic force” that draws them towards those positive expectations. In this vibrant, energizing presentation, participants gain new appreciation for their impact on others and how they can make a genuine difference.
Our time together with Brian will focus on the foundation of outstanding coaching, teamwork, employee motivation, dealing positively with accelerating change and organizational momentum.

Dr. Sam Low
Dental Education: Friend or Foe
With increasing costs, decreasing revenue and a shortage of qualified faculty, dental education institutions face challenges unheard of in recent history. In addition, some dental communities continue to lose confidence that educational institutions produce dentists with competency as evidenced by state regulatory board examinations and actual observations.
This seminar unravels the quagmire of adversity noted in dental education and organized dentistry. Historical data will be presented to detail the evolution of a crisis in dental education. Furthermore, the perspective of grassroots dentistry will be formulated as it reacts to non-traditional directions of educational institutions. Solutions will emerge in an attempt to satisfy a mutual mission.

Dr. Henry Gremillion
Dentistry’s New Vistas
Dentistry and dental practice are truly in the midst of a Golden Age. Never before has the general population appreciated more that quality oral health as a significant component of quality overall health. Additionally, technological and technique-related advances have greatly enhanced diagnostic and treatment outcomes. Based upon recent scientific evidence, today’s dentist must become a physician of the masticatory system and beyond. This presentation will address new vistas for the dental practitioner of 2007. Areas that will be highlighted include: nutritional supplementation related to masticatory system health and function, advances in imaging, the dentist’s role in sleep disturbances, and pharmacotherapy advances in the treatment of orofacial pain.

Dr. Matt Steinberg
High Touch Meets High Tech
The enormous explosion of learning technology of recent years can cause a bewildering setback to the busy dental practitioner. Yet, change is here and it will not go backwards. Dr. Matt will assist us in how wireless tablet PC communication technology can innovate and revolutionize our dental practice. It’s all about perceived differentiation. This technology can become a “Pivot Point” in the way we conduct our business. It frees us up to deliver information anywhere, anytime with anyone. We are not tied down to a wired computer and the tablet weights only three pounds.
Facilitating with ease the “high touch” systems which differentiates us and our dental experience from all others is where this newest technology excels. High tech at this level creates interactive chair-side scheduling, transformational co-diagnosis and treatment planning consultations becoming much more intimate.
Learn how easy it is to create a true paperless environment, the unique characteristics of using the wireless tablet and the creation of an interactive collaboration with team and patients. We will all walk away with the knowledge that High Touch can be fostered by High Tech!

Dr. Sandy Parrott
Special Things the Excellent Dentist Does — Lessons I Have Learned
Dentistry is a wonderful yet very difficult profession. Developing a quality dental practice and defining the philosophy of the dentist, the team and the office is an ongoing career task. It takes full engagement of the dentist and the dental team.
A systematic approach to patient care and a committed philosophy of practice is essential to success. A story of how one dentist has made it work — the bumps in the road, the successes, failures and survival for more than 35 years will be shared.

Todd Whitthorne
Your Health, Your Responsibility — Don’t Die From Something Stupid
There exists a power for the improvement of our health which outdistances all other efforts, systems, or mechanisms, the Power of Prevention. Todd’s program will cover in detail exactly what is needed in terms of exercise, diet and supplementation to maximize our health. The most amazing discovery we will learn is that it is not nearly as tough as we might expect to achieve the perfect balance for ultimate prevention. For everyone who commits that health is one of the most important priorities, magic keys will be exposed by this presentation. As is true in every priority for life, that magic key is for us to take charge of our health. We will walk away from this presentation with the necessary tools to implement that “Magic Key of Health”.

Dr. Irwin Becker
Ethics And Philosophy For The Dental Practitioner
As the public is enthralled with the Extreme Makeover movement, a new and most important perspective of dentistry is needed. Dr. Becker will impart his thoughts on bringing ethically based treatment planning back as mainstream.
The philosophy of the relationship-driven, private practice is his underlying theme. This coupled with the distinct advantages of the comprehensive approach to optimal oral health will leave the audience clearly able to answer the multitude of patients seeking “quick-fix” answers to sophisticated, complex problems.
It is paramount that today’s dental practitioner understand this underlying ethical dilemma facing modern dentistry. Through the process of clarifying a practice philosophy that is totally based on the unique and magical doctor/patient relationship, the dilemma is conquered. From this process, we are able to best meet the challenges of the new faces of dentistry around the world.

Exercise For Life
Have you ever wondered just how much exercise is enough and how much is too much? Get ready for a packed, full hour of information from solid wellness data gained over the last thirty plus years at the world-renowned Cooper Institute in Dallas, Texas. Todd will show us why we don’t need to run a marathon or climb a mountain in order to receive tremendous benefits from the efforts at exercise. The research is clear that those persons who choose to build a life around exercise lead the healthiest and most fulfilling lives. It is the decision of an individual to take charge of his or her health that leads to this wonderful fulfilling lifestyle. “Moving” brings each of us this gift.

Dr. John Cranham
The Synergy Of Balance — Finding Happiness And Fulfillment In Life And Dentistry
Everything in our body is designed to maintain a degree of equilibrium. A delicate balance, that when disrupted, can lead to catastrophic events. Balance is the key that allows us to not only maintain optimum health, but to perform at our highest capacity. John will take us on a tour of the Gnathostomatic system that will review the importance of anatomic and functional harmony in our cosmetic and restorative cases. Restorative Dentistry must live in harmony with the muscles of the face, the occusal forces, and the surrounding microorganisms. Optimum treatment planning requires a thorough understanding of this balance, the ability to detect signs of disharmony, and the knowledge to restore it when it is gone.
Like optimum dental care, life also requires planning to obtain the desired result. John will finish the program drawing the parallels that exist between treatment planning optimum dentistry, and designing a happy and fulfilling life. This planning requires knowledge, vision and commitment.

Mary Osborne And Joan Unterschuetz
Dancing With The Dragon Of Change
Whether you are helping your patients change their behaviors or attitudes; or helping co-workers, family or friends, change is challenging. At times, change resembles a terrible fire-breathing dragon. We can learn to become a facilitator of change, a person who makes it easier for others to move through change. Mary Osborne and Joan Unterschuetz are facilitators of change in dental practices and have helped countless people in the industry develop the skills necessary to become change agents. In this workshop, they will help us learn Four Facilitation Skills that we can use both personally and professionally. Join us for this program and you will learn to:

  • Listen for Understanding. Deep listening is essential to earning the right to influence others in a positive way.
  • Offer Effective Feedback. Knowing when and how to offer feedback that is both compassionate and direct are a skill and an art.
  • Reframe Resistance. Instead of trying to overcome resistance, we can learn to reframe it and even dance with it.
  • Create Agreements. Clear agreements are the foundation for supporting long-term change.

Mastermind AADPA 2007
Mastermind AADPA 2007 will provide one of the most unique experiences ever offered by our Academy. There will be three separate masterminds available to cover the interest of all attendees. Dr. Chris Kleber will lead a mastermind dedicated to “Doctor” issues. Dr. Randy Jungman will create a mastermind session for “Staff” attendees. Joan Unterschuetz will be with the “Young AADPA Member” attendees focusing on those issues facing the young dental practitioner. These three masterminds will address interesting questions such as:

  • Have economic diversions (real estate development, day trading stocks and funds, multi level marketing, etc.) taken us away from our professional strengths?
  • You have $100,000, to invest in your dental practice. What will it be that you invest in and what is your expected return on that investment?
  • What advice would you share with a young dentist to be economically free by age 60?
  • Have you personally experienced “burnout”? If “Yes”, then, what did you learn and what would you share with your peers to help them avoid it? If “No”, then, what do you do on a regular basis to avoid it?
  • List three books that you have read on understanding what patients want and improving your sales/presentation skills in the last year. What impact did each book have on your skills with relating to your patients?

Exercise for Life — The Mountain Walk
For those who have never climbed a mountain, here is your chance! Barry and Andrew have planned a fun filled, yet very challenging exercise afternoon for all who wish to join them on “The Mountain Walk.” This Walk will take in the beauty of the Phoenix/Scottsdale valley from atop one of the nearby mountains. The thin air of the Arizona desert will create for most of us the great challenge as we ascend the elevations of the mountain. There are two most important tools for this walk: great shoes and fresh water.
Barry and Andrew promise an experience that will create more of the wonderful AADPA memories for all who dare to join them. Remember: get a very good night’s sleep before trying this adventure with “The Boys.”

Alan Ovson
Dental Marketing You Will Not Be Outsourced
Throughout the history of our profession, there has been a “forbidden word” that has only in recent times shown itself on the dental media headlines. It is the “M” word which is the most difficult word in the dental language. Why is the “Marketing” of a dental practice so difficult for dentists to think about? Just as with all change, there is a methodology to how true marketing of a “value-based” dental practice can happen. Alan will carry us through the steps of creating the change to the implementation of a value-based, dental marketing experience.
It is clear that “dental outsourcing” is not a threat. This understanding can lead to a higher level of energy for implementing the “M” word in our daily practice. Once Alan engages us in tips on how to make the “values” you live, be the marketing you use, an entirely new vision can occur for each of us.
Be ready for an experience of a lifetime as a new face, Dr. Sigmund Psychic goes in depth as to why this “M” word is so difficult for dentists to think about. Dr. Psychic will demonstrate how change happens and will assist us in realizing that the “M” word is only a word with no fear attached.
Alan will help us understand that most of the problems that zap motivation, destroy teamwork, decrease productivity, and limit the ability to market effectively, have to do both with ineffective communication and a reluctance to make a change a positive event.

Mark Scharenbroich
Fueling Performance With Passion
Research has shown time and again that performance in the workplace improves dramatically when strong connections with others have been built. It is this higher level of performance that every leader in all industry sectors searches for within their organizations. These leaders desired greatly to create the climate that will foster that high level of performance. Mark’s presentation will share with us the core messages which help us as leaders to facilitate that climate of connections.
Combine the timing of a stand-up comedian, the power of an inspirational speaker, the art of a story teller and you get Mark Scharenbroich. Mark uses laughter to open his listener’s minds and then moves them to action with messages aimed at the heart. We will be reminded that our work is vital to the growth of the overall organization. We will see the importance of working respectfully and collaboratively and gain a greater connection and sense of purpose to our work.
Count on this presentation to be genuine, funny, relevant and memorable. The difference between a good speaker and a great speaker is that a good speaker engages their audience. . . . a great speaker moves an audience to action. Get ready for “Action.”
